painter, curator, teacher
interiors and still lives
Patterson is a painter who has also dedicated the past twenty years to teaching art and curating exhibitions. Her work is about clear choices; creating arrangements of objects that have been selected for their color and the meaning they generate in proximity to one another. She often includes references to the history of art, suggesting the constant presence of the past in shaping the present. Like words in poetry, the carefully chosen objects have been contemplated to generate meaning for the viewer, often with ironic or unexpected outcomes.
